FCA 7-on-7 football champion Lee-Montgomery defeated Opelika 21-8 in the championship game to win the FCA 7-on-7 football tournament Friday night. The Generals defeated Park Crossing in the first round and Auburn in the semifinals of the tournament.
In the Georgia qualifier in the Select 7-on-7 football tournament, Hoover finished 4-0 on Friday night in pool play and won their first four games in bracket play. The Bucs defeated Whitefield Academy 23-13, Cherokee 22-15, Shiloh 20-13 and Hillgrove 17-16. Hoover lost to Valdosta 23-16 and Grayson 24-11 late in bracket play.
In the Mississippi qualifier, Florence defeated Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 33-18, Muscle Shoals 17-4, Olive Branch 23-14, but lost to Brandon (Miss.) 30-12 and Starkville (Miss.) late in the bracket to end their run. Also, Central-Phenix City defeated Clarksville (Miss.) 20-12, defeated Starkville 25-17, lost to Brandon 26-19 and defeated Clarksville (Miss.) 25-14 in the losers bracket then getting put out by Starkville 16-8.
In the Palmetto State Showdown today, Bob Jones defeated Bergen 21-16, Myrtle Beach, (S.C.) defeated Bob Jones 47-34, Bob Jones defeated Lakewood 43-9. In an elimination game, Davidson Day (N.C.) defeated Bob Jones 21-11.
The National Select 7-on-7 football tournament will be held at Hoover High School and Regions Park on July 17-19. The Alabama participating teams will be the host school the Hoover Bucs along with Foley, Opelika, Spain Park, and Spanish Fort. Kenton, Ohio will try to defend their 2013 championship.
