RB #12 Terelle West (Clay-Chalkville) rushed for 170 yards on 13 carries & 2 TD's vs Hewitt-Trussville

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama -- With the game tied at the half at 21-21, the Clay-Chalkville Cougars outscored their cross-town rival with 38 straight points in the second half to go on to defeat Hewitt-Trussville 59-28 at Huskies Stadium. Tyrell Pigrome accounted for five touchdowns on the night with two rushing, two passing and one receiving.

With the game tied at 21 at the half, it was all Clay-Chalkville in the second half. The Cougars defense gave up a late fourth quarter touchdown but the game was out of reach. "We made the necessary adjustments in the second half," said Cougars head coach Jerry Hood. "Very proud of our defense. They gave great effort in the second half. They did it on the field."

To was all Clay-Chalkville (10-0) out of the locker room after the half. With the Cougars Art Smith taking the kickoff and racing 50-yards to give the Cougars good field position. It only took the first play from scrimmage for Pigrome to race 45-yards for a Cougars touchdown and a Clay-Chalkville lead that they would never give up.

With Hewitt-Trussville (5-5) going three and out after the Cougars touchdown, Clay-Chalkville scored again on a little trickery. With running back Jordan Young taking a hand off and running left, Young pulled up and threw across the field back to his quarterback Pigrome who caught the ball and followed his wall of blockers for an 11-yard touchdown play. With the touchdown, the Cougars go up 35-21. "I knew I just had to catch it cause I knew I had blocking in front of me," said the Cougars QB Pigrome. "Our offensive line has done a great job of opening up holes and were doing a great job of running through them."

Clay-Chalkville kept up the pressure in the third quarter as the Cougars went on a 4-play, 60-yard drive and scored on a Pigrome to Nick Collins 35-yard touchdown pass who was wide open deep behind the Huskies defense. A Pigrome to Terelle West 9-yard pass setup the Cougars touchdown. With the score, Clay-Chalkville led 42-21.

On the Hewitt-Trussville next drive, a Huskies pass was intercepted by Nick Battle and returned it to the Huskies 2-yard line. Two plays later, Pigrome scored on a 2-yard run to make it 49-21 Cougars. That is four touchdowns in six minutes of football. "Our power run game was the difference in the game," added Hood. "When we can get our running game going like this, we will get our shots in the passing game like we did getting Collins wide open in the passing game."

The Cougars scored 10 more points in the fourth quarter. A West 28-yard touchdown run really opened the game up. A T.J. Simmons pass reception of 29-yards and a Simmons 10-yard reverse were the key plays for touchdown. A Patrick Millican 38-yard field goal pushed the score to 59-21 late in the game.

Hewitt-Trussville scored their only score in the second half on a 3-yard touchdown run by Jarrion Street. The Huskies had a Zac Thomas to Cyle Moore 9-yard touchdown play, a Street 3-yard touchdown run and a Thomas 13-yard touchdown run. It looked like we were going to have a shootout in the second half, but it just didn't happen. "I thought we played pretty good offensively in the first half," said Huskies head coach Josh Floyd. "We just couldn't get going in the second half, give credit to Clay-Chalkville for the way they played tonight."

In the game, Pigrome finished the night with completing 11-of-12 passing for 163 yards & two touchdowns along with 108 yards rushing on 11 carries. Also, the junior QB had the 11-yard touchdown reception. Tailback West had 170 yards on 17 carries & 2 TD's along with a 9-yard reception.

For Hewitt-Trussville, Thomas was 12-for-29 passing for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Street had 135 yards on 26 carries & two touchdowns for the Huskies.
