QB #8 Ty Pigrome (Clay-Chalkville) vs Florence

CLAY, Alabama -- Ty Pigrome threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns as the Clay-Chalkville Cougars go on and win the Class 6A semifinals against Florence 35-21 at Cougar Stadium. The Florence defense kept the Cougars offense in check in the first half, but Clay-Chalkville scored four touchdowns in the second half for the win and punch their ticket for the championship game against Saraland next Friday at Jordan–Hare Stadium.

#1 Clay-Chalkville improves to 14-0 on the season and has scored a total of 695 points on the season. "As long as we can block their front, we put them in a bind formationly on offense," said Cougars head coach Jerry Hood. "Florence has a great defense. This is big for our kids and our community, this is gigantic stuff."

Florence (11-3) scored first in the game when Roland Adams was in the wildcat and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. The Falcons went up 7-0 with 10:56 left in the half. The Cougars tied the score at 7-7 when Ty Pigrome hit Nico Collins on a 7-yard touchdown pass over the middle of the endzone. That was all of the scoring in the first half.

In the second half, the Cougars come out of the locker room and get the early touchdown to take the 14-7 lead. A Pigrome to T.J. Simmons 11-yard touchdown pass gave the Cougars the lead.

Florence answers with a score of their own on a 24-yard field goal by Edson Casarrubias. With the kick, the Cougars still lead 14-10. With 1:55 left in the third quarter, a  Pigrome deep pass to Collins for a 35-yard touchdown play for the Cougars. With the score, Clay-Chalkville leads 21-10. Late in the third quarter due to a big kickoff return for the Falcons, Florence scores on a William Bennett 3-yard touchdown run. An Adams two-point conversion cut the Cougars lead to 21-18.

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars took the ball after the Falcons touchdown and drove down the field for a score. Pigrome took the ball up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown run for the Cougars. With the touchdown, Clay-Chalkville leads 28-18 with 11:42 to go in the game. Florence came back with a score of their own, it was a Casarrubias 32-yard field goal. With the score, Florence cut the Cougars lead to 28-21 with only 6:22 left in the game. "We would like to be playing next week, but it is just another step for Florence football," said Falcons linebacker Keaton Anderson. "As a defensive leader, I'm disapointed that we couldn't keep them from scoring 35 points in this game. I'm still proud of my team and proud to be a Falcon."

Again, Clay-Chalkville to the kickoff and marched down the field. Pigrome scored on a 4-yard touchdown with only 3:24 left in the game. "We kept believing that we could win this game," said Cougars QB Pigrome. "We just kept working hard, the line, backs and receivers did what we do." Pigrome had the monster night, completing 13-of-15 passing for 188 yards on three touchdowns with 56 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns on the ground. The junior quarterback has 56 total touchdowns on the season.

The Clay-Chalkville defense took over on downs to end the game and receive a trip to the 6A state championship. With the win, Clay-Chalkville will play Saraland, Friday, December 5, 2014 in Auburn, Alabama.
