HOOVER, Alabama -- The Hoover Bucs defeated the #1 Hewitt-Trussville Huskies 5-2 on Tuesday night. The Bucs scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning that was the difference in the game. Winning pitcher Kaitlyn Raines gets the win in relief and was solid for most of the night.

Hewitt-Trussville scored first in the game when Lexie Kelly scored on a Kate Hicks bunt single. With the score, the Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. In the bottom half of that inning, Hoover scored on a Lindsey Westhoven RBI single scoring Stella Storch. With the score, the Bucs tied the score at 1-1.

In the third is where it broke open for Hoover. A Bella Foran RBI single scored Hanna Christian. A double steal scored Ki Davis. A Olivia Christian RBI single scored Foran and a Ava Hartman RBI double scored Olivia Christian and Hoover led 5-1. "We came together and worked real hard tonight," said third baseman Olivia Christian. "I was just trying to put the ball on the right side of the field to get that run. This is a big win for us and keeps us rolling with great confidence."

In the top of the fifth inning, it looked like Hewitt-Trussville was going to get back in the game. With hits by Corey Goguts and Chaney Peters the Huskies had two on and no outs, but the Bucs defense turned a double play along with a fly out to right field that ended the Huskies threat. "Huge, momentum could have gone their way so that was big on getting that double play," said Bucs head coach Trey Matlock. "Good team we played in Hewitt. We made some big adjustments at the plate that gave us the big inning. We had great competition this past weekend and Hewitt always makes us better."

The Huskies scored on a rundown in the sixth inning and catcher Makalla Hope scored to make it 5-2 Hoover. Zaylen Tucker pitched pretty well for the Huskies only giving up the one inning where the Bucs scored four runs. She pitched six innings for Hewitt-Trussville in the game.
