 Vestavia Hills at Hewitt-Trussville | Friday - September 12, 2014 | Class 7A, Region 3 game
QB #14 Landon Crowder, Vestavia Hills

Buddy Anderson will go after win 310 Friday night for him to be the most winning coach in Alabama high school football. The Vestavia Hills Rebels will travel to Hewitt-Trussville in a Class 7A Region 3 contest.

Both teams are coming off loses and look to rebound with a win, but some team will come out of this game 0-2 in the region of doom. Both teams had chances to come out on the winning side but costly mistakes were to much to overcome last week.

Vestavia Hills (1-1, 0-1) comes into the game looking for some better consistency on offense. A couple of key turnovers cost the Rebels last week. "We have a lot of room for improvement, we have good effort but we have to improve," said Rebels head coach Anderson. "This is a very talented team that we play with a very good quarterback. We have our work cut out for us."

The Rebels bring second-year starter Landon Crowder back at quarterback. The senior quarterback is a key piece of the offense for Vestavia Hills. "Landon has a better understanding of our offense this season," added Anderson. "He is a great competitor and comes to play every game." With Crowder in the backfield are tailbacks Carter Jacobs and Walker Minor. Fullback Daniel Gosdin leads the way for his two running backs.

For the Rebels offense to move the chains, they passing game has to be a factor in the game. The run game usually sets up the play action game. Big target Sam Harvey and Remington Patterson look to make big plays in the passing game. Tight end Davis Gurosky is another solid target.

On defense, the Rebels to a great job off getting a lot of people to the ball. The Rebels defense has only given up two touchdowns in regulation and one touchdown in overtime this season. Middle linebacker Steadman Gully leads the Rebels defense.

For Hewitt-Trussville under first-year head coach Josh Floyd. The new head coach has only been around since July and has his team on a fast learning curse. "This is the first-year under our new system on offense and our guys are getting better everyday," said Huskies head coach Floyd. "We have improved a lot from our first game to our second even though we won our first game and lost our second game. We just made two many penalties and are trying to clean them up."

On offense for the Huskies, quarterback Zach Thomas runs the fast paced offense. Thomas has completed 26-of-40 passing for 394 yards with one touchdown and one interception along with 55 carries for 280 yards and four touchdowns in two games this season. "Zach is a very good runner with some natural ability," Floyd added. "He threw the ball very well last week."

Along with Thomas, look for junior running back Jarrion Street to add to the Huskies run game. Street was injured for much of the fall and looks to make an impact in the Huskies run game to take come pressure off of Thomas. Cyle Moore is another weapon for the Huskies offense.

For the defense, Doantay Wilson can get it done on both sides of the ball at receiver but can turn a game around in the Huskies secondary. Linebacker Jalen Williams is key piece for the Hewitt-Trussville defense.
