HOOVER, Alabama - Turnovers, special teams and defense turned a close game into a lopsided affair as Grayson, Georgia defeated Hoover 36-14 Friday night at the Hoover Met. Hoover was just down eight points with less than a minute in the third quarter, but two fourth quarter turnovers gave Grayson two short touchdowns to put the game away.

Grayson (8-1) lost their first game of the season to IMG in Florida and now has won eight straight games with three shutouts in their last five games. "We found a way to win tonight, even though it wasn't the prettiest way," said Rams Head coach Jeff Herron. "I don't feel like we played our best but we found a way and capitalized on some breaks and found a way to win. This is a tough place to play and a tough trip to make but if feels good to get the win."

Grayson scored first in the game when the Rams blocked the Bucs punt and Jalen Alexander scooped up the loose football and ran 10-yards for a Rams touchdown. The extra point was missed and Grayson led 6-0. With 1:14 left in the first quarter, CJ Sturdivant scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Barret Pickering kicked the extra point and Hoover took a 7-6 lead.

With 4:15 left in the half, Will VanPamelen kicked a 35-yard field goal for the Rams and Grayson took back the lead at 9-7. After forcing a Hoover punt inside of 3:00 minutes until halftime, the Rams drove down into Hoover territory and as time expired VanPamelen kicked a 39-yard field goal and Grayson led 12-7 at the half.

With 7:25 left in the third quarter, VanPamelen kicked his third field goal of the game as he hit a 48-yarder and Grayson led 15-7. Hoover took the ball over and was driving but R.J. Randle fumbled on a nice run and cornerback/running back Jamyest Williams forced the fumble and Breon Dixon picked up the fumble and ran down to the Hoover 5-yard line. On the next play for the Rams with 6:03 in the third quarter, Camron Thompson scored on the 5-yard touchdown run. VanPamelen kicked the PAT and Grayson led 22-7.

With :51 seconds left in the third quarter, Hoover (8-2) scored on a Garrett Farquhar to Joseph Timpa on a 1-yard touchdown play for the Bucs. Pickering kicked the PAT and Hoover cut the Grayson lead to 22-14. With 9:10 left in the fourth quarter, Williams scored on a 1-yard touchdown run off a Bucs punt return fumble deep into Hoover territory. With the VanPamelen extra point, Grayson led 29-14. "I saw an opportunity to take the game late and fought back to get to a moment," said Bucs Head coach Josh Niblett. "We shot ourselves in the foot and didn't help ourselves then just melted down and that is not us."

Grayson scored again when Williams scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with 4:33 left in the game. The Bucs turned the ball over again off a bad snap from a Bucs punt. The Rams took over the ball inside the Hoover 5-yard line. VanPamelen kicked the PAT and Grayson led 36-14 to get the big win for the Rams. "We all played together as a team tonight," said Rams RB/CB Williams. "Very proud of my coaches and teammates. We expected a hard game. We have a lot of heart and a lot of dog."

Hoover will need to get a few things ironed out before next week as they host Bob Jones Friday night at the Hoover Met.
