 Prattville 42, Lee-Montgomery 18 Final | Thursday - October 13, 2022 | Class 7A, Region 2 Game

WR #8 Kam Shanks (Prattville) with the big punt return for a touchdown against Lee-Montgomery at the Cramton Bowl Thursday night

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- The #8 Prattville Lions came on the road and defeated Lee-Montgomery 42-18 at the Cramton Bowl on Thursday night. In the first half, the Lions used some big plays by wide receiver Kam Shanks to win the Class 7A, Region 2 game.

Shanks caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a touchdown that led to the big win over Lee-Montgomery. "This win means a lot to us being a region game," said Prattville WR Shanks. "We need this region game to get where we want to be in the playoffs."

Prattville (6-2, 4-2) scored on their first drive of the game. Wide receiver Jack Studdard caught a pass over the middle of the field, along with a Calvin Parker reception of 15-yards that set up Lion's first score of the game. With 6:20 left in the first quarter, Mario Parks scored a 10-yard touchdown run, and the Lions took an early 7-0 lead. Big blocks by William Mitchell and Clayton Boerigter powered Parks into the end zone.

On the first play after the Lions score, Lee quarterback Bryson McGrew raced 77-yards around the left end for a touchdown. Offensive linemen Jaylan Ruffin and Ka'veone Vane made big blocks on the score. The two-point conversion failed, and the Lions kept the lead at 7-6.

Prattville came right back on a drive to get a touchdown. With 1:25 left in the first quarter, Parks scored on a 4-yard touchdown run, and the Lions led 14-6 late in the first quarter. With 11:38 left in the second quarter, Cameron Richardson connected to Shanks on a 38-yard touchdown pass, and the Lions led 21-6 early in the second quarter.

The Lion's special team scored in the game. Shanks took a punt and raced 68-yards for a touchdown, and the Lions took a 28-6 lead. "I don't know if I'm going to get a chance to return the punt, but they kicked a line drive, so I had my chance," added Shanks. "When I took the ball, I made one cut and saw a lot of green grass."

The Lions were driving again before halftime, but an interception by defensive back Josh Whiting turned away a Prattville scoring opportunity before the half. Lee moved deep into Lions territory late in the half, but the drive fell short as time expired, and Prattville took a 28-6 halftime lead.

With 8:34 left in the first half, Richardson scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, and the Lions led big at 35-6. With 11:07 left in the fourth quarter, Joshwa Browder threw deep over the middle, and DJ Blue made a leaping catch for a Lions touchdown. With the score, Prattville took a 42-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. "We came in and took advantage of our opportunities given to us," said Prattville head coach J.B. Wallace. "We came to play on a Thursday night that is very different for us, but we showed up and got it done."

Lee (0-8, 0-6) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. With 9:42 left in the game, Antwan Barnes scored on a 55-yard run, and McGrew scored on a 13-yard run as time expired.

Richardson completed 10-of-16 passing for 265 yards for Prattville with a touchdown and an interception. The Lions had over 360 yards of offense in the win.

Next, for both teams, Lee will travel to Smiths Station, while Prattville will host Auburn.
